Russian announces end of counter-terrorist operation in Dagestan
The National Anti-Terrorist Committee (NAC) of the Russian Federation has announced the completion of the counter-terrorist operation in Makhachkala and Derbent.
The NAC confirmed that all the attackers had been liquidated, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
"In connection with the elimination of threats to the life and health of citizens ... at 8:15 a.m. the legal regime of the counter-terrorist operation within the administrative borders of Makhachkala and Derbent in the Republic of Dagestan was cancelled," the agency said in a press release.
On the evening of June 23, a series of coordinated terrorist attacks struck the cities of Makhachkala and Derbent in Russia’s Dagestan Republic, resulting in the deaths of 10 people and injuries to 34 others.
The assailants targeted two Orthodox churches, a synagogue, and a traffic police post. The attacks have shaken the region and prompted a swift response from law enforcement and government officials.
