Russian dietitian names foods to normalise blood sugar levels
Doctor of medical sciences from Russia, dietitian Margarita Koroleva has said that foods with a low glycemic index will help normalise blood sugar levels.
"Replace boiled potatoes and pasta with vegetables that contain coarse fibre. You can eat them four times a day, maintain a feeling of satiety throughout the day, without bringing the body to hypoglycemia - a decrease in blood glucose levels," Moscow 24 quotes her as saying.
"Fruits and vegetables can also be low-glycemic, she says — green firm and crunchy apples and pears, as well as boiled carrots and beets. Thoroughly chewed fruits saturate the body better since the oral cavity perceives the organoleptic properties of the product better. So simple carbohydrates will not provoke sharp jumps in blood sugar," Koroleva noted.
The nutritionist added that people with high sugar levels should exclude refined sweets, bakery products, sweet fruits and berries from the diet.
