Azerbaijan elevates global trade influence with WCO Policy Commission membership
The Azerbaijani State Customs Committee has been officially elected member of the Policy Commission of the World Customs Organisation (WCO), marking a significant milestone in the country’s active engagement with global customs cooperation.
The election took place during the final day of the 145th/146th sessions of the WCO Customs Cooperation Council, Caliber.Az reports, citing the State Customs Committee.
This leadership body election reflects Azerbaijan’s growing influence and collaborative efforts within the international customs community. Azerbaijan’s appointment to the Policy Commission comes as recognition of its dedicated work and initiatives carried out under the WCO framework, with strong backing from customs authorities of member states.
The World Customs Organisation is an independent intergovernmental body established in 1952 to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of customs administrations worldwide. Headquartered in Brussels, Belgium, the WCO provides a platform for cooperation, setting international standards and policies to facilitate legitimate trade, improve border security, and combat customs fraud and smuggling. With over 180 member states, the WCO plays a crucial role in shaping global customs practices, promoting economic growth, and supporting international trade compliance. Its key instruments include the Harmonized System for classifying goods and the SAFE Framework of Standards to secure and facilitate global trade.
