International team opens new front in Azykh Cave excavations PHOTO

Archaeological researchers have identified several entrances to Azykh Cave and have begun exploring a new section of the site by entering through its second entrance.

The development was reported during a visit by the leadership and representatives of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) and the Ministry of Science and Education to archaeological excavations being conducted by an international expedition at the cave, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

ANAS President Academician Isa Habibbayli, Deputy Minister of Science and Education Idris Isayev, Director of the State Agency for Science and Higher Education Ulkar Sattarova, Head of the Ministry’s Science, Higher and Vocational Education Department Turkhan Suleyman, and other officials toured the excavation sites.

The delegation received detailed briefings on the ongoing archaeological work and research activities.

Habibbayli highlighted meetings held in recent years between ANAS and members of the Azykh international expedition. He noted that the number of foreign scientists participating in this year’s archaeological excavations had been expanded and that the research had already produced important scientific findings.

He also stressed the importance of publishing research results in prestigious international scientific journals, saying that joint scientific expeditions play a significant role in strengthening international integration in science and education.

The continued exploration of Azykh Cave is expected to provide further opportunities for international researchers to study the site and contribute to the broader understanding of its archaeological significance.
