Baku hosts international conference on humanitarian mine action

The 4th International Humanitarian Mine Action Conference has opened in Baku, bringing together more than 400 participants from 60 countries to discuss efforts to address the global threat posed by landmines.

The conference, jointly organised by Azerbaijan’s Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) and the United Nations Office in Azerbaijan, is being held on September 2-3 under the theme “Humanitarian Mine Action for Urban Recovery: Setting Standards of Excellence for Safe Human Settlement,” Caliber.Az reports, citing local media. 

Discussions are focused on raising international awareness of Azerbaijan’s mine problem, strengthening cooperation in humanitarian mine action, and addressing the mine threat as part of safe and sustainable reconstruction.

Participants are also expected to exchange innovative approaches and best practices and discuss ways to mobilise international efforts to support mine-clearance initiatives.

The conference is attended by senior government officials, representatives of UN agencies and international organisations, mine action authorities from various countries, and diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan.
