Russian drone strikes leave 6,000 without power in Ukraine's Chernihiv
A wave of overnight drone strikes by Russia has damaged critical infrastructure in Ukraine’s Chernihiv region, leaving around 6,000 residents without electricity, regional authorities said.
According to Vyacheslav Chaus, head of the regional military administration, dozens of Russian unmanned aerial vehicles targeted the city of Chernihiv overnight. He said Ukrainian air defence systems were active for hours, successfully intercepting some of the drones, but confirmed that several strikes hit energy and industrial facilities, Caliber.Az reports.
Chaus reported that the attacks caused significant damage, including a large-scale fire at one of the impacted sites, and disrupted power supply to thousands of customers.
Local monitoring groups also indicated that, following the strikes, a thermal power plant in Chernihiv had temporarily suspended operations.
