Russian leader invites Iranian counterpart to BRICS summit in Kazan

19 August 2024 16:14

Iranian Ambassador to Russia Kazem Jalali has revealed that Russian President Vladimir Putin extended an invitation to Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to attend the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan.

In a recent interview, Jalali shared that Putin congratulated Pezeshkian on his election victory and formally invited him to the summit during a phone call, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

Russia will host the BRICS summit in Kazan from October 22 to 24, 2024, marking its first term as the rotating BRICS presidency since the bloc's expansion, Jalali noted. He added that the summit will feature discussions and speeches on key issues by the BRICS leaders. Regarding the Russia-Iran comprehensive agreement, Jalali stated that it has been approved by officials from both countries' foreign ministries. However, procedural and legislative steps are still required before it can be signed. Jalali also mentioned that there is a possibility the agreement could be signed during the BRICS summit.

The BRICS International Municipal Forum will serve as one of the largest international platforms for discussions of municipal cooperation and the exchange of experience among BRICS cities and regions in the run-up to the BRICS Summit, which will be held in Kazan on October 22–24,  2024. The Forum programme includes more than 70 business events and a major exposition, which will provide unique opportunities to establish business contacts and find new partners, particularly among representatives of small and medium-sized businesses.
