Turkish FM confirms Ankara's willingness to join BRICS
Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan has confirmed that Ankara is interested in joining the BRICS group.
However, he acknowledged that Türkiye currently lacks sufficient information about the institutional development of the bloc, Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
“We are, of course, looking at various options for trade and economic cooperation in the context of current international diversification. BRICS is now a platform, but it is not fully institutionalised. In other words, for example, the EU has an integrated and common currency, financing methods, models, investment programmes, criteria, infrastructure and so on. BRICS has not yet fully resolved these issues.
Fidan emphasized that Türkiye will continue to monitor the development of BRICS and its institutional evolution before making a final decision on joining.
"When we join BRICS, we will then observe how things evolve. We are striving towards that goal," he said in response to inquiries about Türkiye's intentions regarding BRICS membership.
BRICS is an intergovernmental organization comprising Brazil, Russia, India, China, South Africa, Iran, Egypt, Ethiopia, and the United Arab Emirates. The group's goal is to promote peace, security, and development, as well as to enhance economic growth through mutual cooperation. It seeks to provide an alternative to the global influence of Western powers.
