Türkiye, Iran align on continued regional diplomacy
The foreign ministers of Türkiye and Iran, Hakan Fidan and Abbas Araghchi, held a phone call to discuss pathways toward resolving the ongoing tensions in the Middle East, according to a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran.
During the conversation, the ministers reviewed the regional situation and assessed the implications of escalating tensions. Araghchi expressed appreciation to Türkiye and several other regional countries for their role in efforts aimed at de-escalation.
He stated that one of the main obstacles to a peaceful resolution is the “contradictory behaviour and illogical demands from the United States.” According to Araghchi, “the inconsistency of actions and statements by the American side raises serious doubts and increases distrust of their intentions.”
Fidan, for his part, reaffirmed Türkiye’s readiness to contribute to resolving the current conflict. The two ministers agreed to continue bilateral consultations and maintain coordination with other countries in the region.
