Saudi Arabia sends 13th aid plane to Syria following Assad’s fall

25 January 2025 18:14

Saudi Arabia dispatched a new aid plane to Syria on January 25 as part of its ongoing humanitarian relief efforts following the fall of President Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

The plane, carrying 30 tons of essential supplies, landed at Damascus International Airport, Caliber.Az reports referencing foreign media.

This marks the 13th aid flight from Saudi Arabia to Syria since Assad’s departure in December 2024. The plane is loaded with food, medical supplies, and shelter materials, aimed at addressing the ongoing humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country.

Earlier this week, three more aid planes from Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Kuwait were sent to Syria as part of coordinated airlifts from Gulf nations to provide support to the Syrian people.

Since the start of the Syrian conflict in 2011, Saudi Arabia has committed over $856 million in humanitarian aid to the country. The World Bank’s 2024 report revealed that 27% of Syrians, about 5.7 million people, live in extreme poverty, struggling to meet basic needs due to years of economic hardship.

Following Assad's flight to Russia after his regime's collapse on December 8, the fall of his family’s decades-long rule has prompted a surge in international aid. Countries including Türkiye, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, the UAE, and Jordan have launched various relief efforts to support Syria's recovery.
