US action in Venezuela signals collapse of world order, Slovak PM says
Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico has asserted that the recent US military operation in Venezuela demonstrates the collapse of the post‑World War II world order, calling into question the relevance of international law and multilateral mandates.
Fico made the comments on social media, underscoring his criticism of the US intervention, Caliber.Az reports.
“The world order has already collapsed. This is absolutely clear. No attention is being paid to the fact that there are mechanisms of international law. No attention is being paid to the fact that a mandate from an international organization is required to use military force,” Fico wrote in a Facebook post.
The Slovak premier criticized the US action in Venezuela as further evidence that “international law no longer works” and that powerful states act unilaterally to pursue their own interests without regard for established legal frameworks.
Fico’s remarks reflect broader international concern following the US operation, which involved military strikes and the capture of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro, prompting condemnation from several world leaders and fears that such actions undermine global stability and the principles of the United Nations Charter.
He also emphasized that the European Union should respond to what he sees as a violation of international law, and voiced concern about the implications for future global security.
