Romania summons Russian ambassador over drone incident

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania has summoned Vladimir Lipaev, Russia’s ambassador to Bucharest, following an incident involving a drone crash in the Romanian city of Galați.

According to a statement published by the ministry on its official Facebook page, the decision to summon the diplomat was ordered by Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu. The move comes in response to the reported fall of a drone on Romanian territory.

The development follows earlier reports that during the night of April 25, Romanian authorities detected the activity of Russian drones near the country’s border with Ukraine. In response, fighter jets were scrambled to monitor the situation.
