Slovak police probe prime minister Fico over treason allegations
Slovak authorities have launched an investigation into Prime Minister Robert Fico on charges including treason, following a criminal complaint filed by opposition politicians.
The complaint, initiated by Branislav Gröling, leader of the opposition SaS party, was reportedly supported by more than 13,000 citizens, making it the largest criminal complaint in Slovak history, Caliber.Az reports via Gröling's post on Facebook.
Gröling stated that he filed the complaint a month ago and that it was subsequently forwarded by the General Prosecutor’s Office to the regional prosecutor and then to the police.
According to Gröling, the investigation concerns serious allegations, including abuse of official authority, treason, inhumanity, mismanagement of property, and even terrorist acts. The complaints focus on Fico’s statements and actions aimed at halting the supply of emergency electricity to Ukraine, which opposition figures claim may constitute criminal conduct.
Gröling welcomed the authorities’ response, emphasising that it was important the prosecutor’s office and police are taking action rather than ignoring the allegations. The investigation is ongoing.
