South Korea, India discuss shipping security in Strait of Hormuz
South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi discussed maritime shipping through the Strait of Hormuz during talks in New Delhi focused on expanding bilateral economic and strategic cooperation.
The two sides also reviewed cooperation in artificial intelligence, defence, shipping, and shipbuilding, as well as broader industrial ties beyond traditional sectors such as electronics and automobiles, Caliber.Az reports, citing Korean media.
Particular attention was given to energy security and the resilience of global supply chains amid instability linked to the US–Iran conflict.
Both countries, which are heavily dependent on energy imports, view coordination in these areas as a priority.
Lee emphasized the need for joint efforts by Seoul and New Delhi to ensure safe navigation through the Strait of Hormuz, a key route for global oil and gas shipments.
This marks the third face-to-face meeting between the leaders since Lee took office in June 2025.
Before the talks, he laid flowers at Raj Ghat in honour of Mahatma Gandhi and, together with Modi, planted a commemorative tree at Hyderabad House.
