Stalled peace talks may push US out of Ukraine process, warns vice president
US Vice President J.D. Vance has warned that Washington could withdraw from ongoing peace negotiations concerning the war in Ukraine if Russia fails to demonstrate a willingness to engage in meaningful dialogue.
Speaking on the current state of diplomatic efforts, Vance acknowledged that progress has stalled, Caliber.Az reports citing foreign media.
“We recognize that talks on the war in Ukraine have hit a bit of an impasse. That’s why Trump will speak with Putin,” he stated.
Vance underscored the complexity of the situation, suggesting that Russian President Vladimir Putin himself may not have a clear strategy for ending the conflict. “Putin doesn’t seem to know exactly how to get out of the war,” he noted.
In a stark declaration of potential policy recalibration, the Vice President said that continued US involvement hinges on Russia's willingness to seek a resolution. “If Russia is unwilling to engage, then ultimately the United States will have to say this is not our war,” Vance added.
His comments signal a shift in tone from the US administration and reflect growing frustration over diplomatic stagnation, even as President Trump is poised to re-enter direct dialogue with the Kremlin.
