Sweden seizes sanction-linked vessel Caffa after two months in port
Swedish police have seized the vessel Caffa, which had been held in Swedish waters for around two months, national broadcaster SVT reports.
According to the report, the operation was carried out at the request of a foreign state, although authorities have not disclosed which country made the request. Swedish prosecutors said the case is being handled under international legal assistance procedures and that key details remain classified.
Judge Nicklas Söderberg of the Ystad District Court described the case as “atypical” and highly sensitive, adding that much of the material may be fully closed to public access.
SVT reported that the vessel’s Russian captain was released from custody about a week ago. However, Sweden’s National Operations Department is continuing a separate investigation related to the ship itself.
The prosecutor’s office confirmed the seizure but declined to provide further information. A court hearing is expected in the coming months.
