Switzerland to acquire drone defence systems to protect troops, infrastructure
Switzerland plans to purchase unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) defence systems to enhance the protection of its troops, military infrastructure, and equipment from drone threats, the Swiss Ministry of Defence announced.
Field tests of the drone defence systems were conducted in the summer of 2025. Following the evaluation of these tests, the Swiss army signed a contract with the Federal Office of Armament to procure the systems, Caliber.Az reports via the Swiss ministry.
According to the ministry, the purchases will help strengthen the defence of troops as well as military infrastructure and equipment.
The ministry also noted that the drone defence systems are partially mobile, allowing them to be adapted for other military tasks if needed, including support operations for civil authorities or peacekeeping missions.
Switzerland’s move follows similar initiatives in several European countries, including Germany, Poland, Finland, and the Baltic states, which have expressed interest in building a “drone wall.”
