Tesla’s Cybertruck sales propped up by Musk’s own companies, report says
Tesla’s Cybertruck sales have been significantly supported by purchases from Elon Musk’s other companies, particularly SpaceX, Bloomberg reports.
Registration data from S&P Global Mobility shows that SpaceX accounted for 1,279 Cybertrucks — more than 18% of the 7,071 units registered in the United States during the fourth quarter of 2025. Other Musk-controlled companies, including xAI, Neuralink, and The Boring Company, purchased an additional 60 vehicles during the same period.
Combined, inter-company purchases made up nearly one in five Cybertrucks registered in the US, highlighting weak external consumer demand for the vehicle. Without these internal transactions, Cybertruck registrations would have declined by roughly 51% year-over-year.
The data suggests that Tesla’s highly publicized electric pickup has struggled to attract mainstream buyers, despite earlier projections by Elon Musk that the company could eventually produce around 250,000 units annually.
