Three rockets hit Iraq's Kirkuk airport area, one person injured
Three rockets of unknown origin struck the vicinity of Kirkuk International Airport in Iraq around 11:30 p.m. local time on June 30, according to a written statement by the airport administration.
Two of the rockets landed in the airport’s military zone, while the third hit a civilian area, igniting a fire in a nearby pasture. The blaze was swiftly extinguished by the airport’s fire brigade, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media.
One person sustained minor injuries in the incident. No damage to the airport’s runway or other facilities has been reported.
A police source in Kirkuk, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that one of the rockets struck the roof of a house in the Uruba neighbourhood, causing structural damage. However, no casualties were reported in that specific incident.
According to Kurdish media, the rockets were identified as Katyusha-type projectiles.
