Truck hits Armenia-planted landmine in Azerbaijan’s Fuzuli
In Azerbaijani territories liberated from occupation, two civilians hit a landmine.
The Azerbaijan Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) and the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Azerbaijan have released information about a mine incident in Ashagi Veysyali village of Fuzuli district of the republic.
ANAMA press service head Sabina Sarkarova told Caliber.Az that as a result of an anti-tank mine explosion the driver of a GAZel truck Famil Ilyas oglu Abilov (born in 1987) was killed, and the driver of the following KamAZ truck Namaz Nabadi oglu Bayramov (born in 2000) was injured.
Law enforcement officers are currently involved in the area.
Armenia planted land mines in Azerbaijani territory, not only during the 30-year-long occupation but also just days before leaving the Azerbaijani lands, as envisaged in the trilateral declaration to cause human casualties.
Civilians and military personnel are frequently maimed or killed as a result of mine explosions in Azerbaijan's liberated regions.
Despite extensive efforts, demining operations faced many challenges due to Armenia’s refusal to hand over maps displaying the locations of the landmines.
ANAMA reported that the maps provided by Armenia were just 2 per cent effective in mine action. According to the Azerbaijani government data, international experts estimate that Azerbaijan needs nearly 30 years and $25 billion to solve issues related to demining.
