Trump accuses Obama of fraud, calls for trial
Former President Donald Trump has reignited political tensions by endorsing a heated narrative accusing former President Barack Obama and his top national security officials of orchestrating a “treasonous conspiracy” to undermine Trump’s 2016 election victory.
On July 19, 2025, Trump posted on his social media platform Truth Social, praising a Fox News panel led by Harrison Fields for “prosecuting” Obama and his “thugs” over what Trump claims is “unequivocally exposed” election fraud at the “highest levels,” Caliber.Az reports, citing foreign media.
He also applauded Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard, urging her to “Keep it coming!!!” as she advocates for criminal charges against Obama and key figures from his administration.
Gabbard’s 114-page declassified report, released July 18, accuses Obama’s national security team—including former DNI James Clapper, CIA Director John Brennan, FBI Director James Comey, and advisor Susan Rice—of deliberately manipulating intelligence to falsely portray Russian interference as favouring Trump. The report cites internal memos, such as a December 7, 2016, intelligence memo stating no cyberattacks changed the election outcome, and alleges that a December 9 White House meeting led to a revised January 2017 report that wrongly implicated Russia in Trump’s victory. According to Gabbard, this false narrative triggered the Mueller investigation and subsequent political turmoil.
The report has been referred to the Department of Justice for possible prosecution, although no formal charges have yet been announced.
However, Gabbard’s claims face strong opposition from multiple sources. Bipartisan investigations, including a 2020 Senate Intelligence Committee report, found “irrefutable evidence” that Russia sought to help Trump’s campaign and found no indication of intelligence fabrication. Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s 2019 report similarly confirmed Russia’s “sweeping and systematic” election interference but found no evidence of collusion by the Trump campaign.
Democratic leaders have dismissed Gabbard’s allegations as baseless and politically motivated. Senate Intelligence Committee senior member Sen. Mark Warner affirmed the credibility of the 2017 intelligence assessment, supported by years of investigation. House Intelligence Committee Democrat Rep. Jim Himes called the treason accusations “without merit,” emphasizing the lack of evidence for Gabbard’s claims.
A recent CIA internal review by Director John Ratcliffe, while critical of certain intelligence methods used in 2017, maintained that Russia actively sought to boost Trump’s chances. Gabbard’s limited background in intelligence has also been questioned by experts and political analysts.
