Trump still plans to host Xi Jinping at White House
U.S. President Donald Trump still expects to welcome Chinese President Xi Jinping to the White House this fall, despite ongoing tensions between Washington and Beijing over allegations of Chinese interference in U.S. elections.
White House Deputy Press Secretary Anna Kelly said there had been no changes to plans for Xi's potential visit, which is tentatively scheduled for September 24, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Kelly said the administration's schedule regarding the Chinese leader's visit remains unchanged.
The planned meeting comes amid renewed accusations from Washington against Beijing. In a televised address on July 16, Trump alleged that China had carried out large-scale efforts to influence U.S. elections, including the 2020 presidential race.
China rejected the accusations, with Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian describing the claims as fabricated and a form of malicious slander.
Trump previously said in early July that Xi's visit to Washington was being planned for September. The U.S. president visited Beijing on May 14–15, marking a previous high-level engagement between the two leaders.
