Trump: Strait of Hormuz to reopen"with or without Iran’s cooperation"
U.S. President Donald Trump said the Strait of Hormuz will reopen soon “with or without Iran’s cooperation,” as American negotiators travel to Pakistan for talks, which Trump says are focused on preventing Tehran from acquiring a nuclear weapon.
“I think it’s going to go pretty quickly. And if it doesn’t, we’ll be able to finish it off one way the other,” Trump said of efforts to ensure free passage through the strategic waterway, which he said Iran has “choked off," Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Speaking at Joint Base Andrews before departing for a fundraising visit to the Trump Winery in Virginia’s Piedmont region, Trump said the primary goal of negotiations with Iran is limiting its nuclear programme.
“No nuclear weapon. That’s 99% of it,” he said.
When asked whether the expected agreement would also address the Strait of Hormuz, Trump replied that it would be included.
“Yeah, but that will open up automatically,” he said, adding that he believed the channel would reopen “fairly soon.”
Vice President JD Vance is traveling to Pakistan to lead the U.S. delegation in talks with Iran. Trump said: “I wish him luck. He’s got a big thing."
