Trump: US keeps Gulf allies in dark on Iran plans
US President Donald Trump stated that American authorities are not sharing details of plans against Iran with their allies in the Persian Gulf.
He made the remarks in an interview with Fox News journalist Jacqui Heinrich, adding that he could not share the plan, saying that revealing it might cause serious consequences, Caliber.Az reports.
“Well, we can’t tell them the plan. If I told them the plan, it would be almost as bad as telling you the plan – it could be worse, actually,” Trump said.
The president clarified that the plan centers on dialogue with Tehran.
“But look, the plan is that [Iran is] talking to us, and we’ll see if we can do something, otherwise we’ll see what happens…We have a big fleet heading out there, bigger than we had - and still have, actually - in Venezuela,” he added.
On January 29, US officials said the military buildup in the Gulf is nearing completion, with current efforts focused on preparation.
The USS Abraham Lincoln strike group, a squadron of F-15 fighter jets, and C-17 transport aircraft have already arrived in the region, signalling a significant US presence as the administration evaluates its next steps on Iran.
