Türkiye aims to eliminate gas import dependence by 2030
Türkiye aims to eliminate dependence on gas imports by 2030, Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) CEO Melih Khan Bilgin said.
According to Sabah, one of the main gas suppliers to Türkiye is Russia (44%). Ankara pays for some of the supplies in Russian rubles, and is negotiating the price, Fatih Donmez, Minister of Energy and Natural Resources, said earlier, Sabah informs.
“We are already planning for the coming years. Our goal by 2030 is to eliminate Türkiye's dependence on natural gas. In 2022, Türkiye has a deficit of approximately $90-100 billion in terms of energy imports. The main problem of Türkiye's current account deficit is energy imports. In one month, the deficit is 8-9 billion dollars. We are trying to close it,” said Bilgin.
Speaking about the gas reserves discovered by Türkiye in the Black Sea, the head of TPAO said that "we are talking about a reserve that can be produced for 30-40 years."
