Parliament speaker: Türkiye stands firm for balanced peace between Russia, Ukraine
President of the Turkish Grand National Assembly Numan Kurtulmuş has said that Türkiye reiterated its commitment to a peace settlement that would address the concerns of both Russia and Ukraine.
While speaking during an iftar (fast-breaking evening meal of Muslims in Ramadan) gathering with media leaders, Kurtulmuş emphasised Türkiye's clear position on the ongoing conflict between the two nations, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
“We have supported Ukraine's territorial integrity from the very first day of the conflict. At the same time, we advocate for a sustainable, just peace that will be acceptable to both parties,” Kurtulmuş stated.
Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said during a meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy that Türkiye could serve as an appropriate host for any potential negotiations aimed at ending the war.
The Turkish leader stated that Ankara firmly supports Ukraine's territorial integrity, sovereignty, and independence and is ready to assist diplomatic efforts to bring an end to the war.
"Ukraine can count on our support regarding its territorial integrity. We are prepared to do everything possible to achieve peace," President Erdogan said.
President Zelenskyy expressed his gratitude to Türkiye for its involvement in prisoner exchanges with Russia.
The Turkish leader stated that from the very beginning of the conflict, Türkiye has made significant efforts to promote peace through negotiations, guided by the principle that there are no winners in war, and no losers in peace.
