FM Fidan stresses Türkiye's vital role in ensuring Europe's long-term security
During a joint press conference with his Croatian counterpart Gordan Grlic Radman in Ankara, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized Türkiye’s crucial role in ensuring Europe’s security.
Fidan asserted that the continent’s deterrent and sustainable security can only be achieved with Ankara’s active participation, Caliber.Az reports citing Turkish media.
Fidan's comments come amid growing concerns over Europe's defence posture, as European leaders engage in emergency talks in Brussels to discuss increasing defence spending and reinforcing support for Ukraine. The discussions are aimed at addressing the evolving security challenges in the region, particularly in the context of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
On another pressing issue, Fidan touched upon the recent tensions in Bosnia and Herzegovina, calling for restraint and dialogue among the country's political factions. He urged the leaders in Bosnia to avoid “unilateral rhetoric,” stressing the importance of resolving differences through cooperation and dialogue rather than provocations.
“We urge everyone to act with restraint. We need cooperation, consensus, and dialogue, not provocations,” Fidan stated, underlining the need for peaceful solutions to the country’s internal challenges.
The situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina has been tense following the recent sentencing of Milorad Dodik, the president of Republika Srpska, one of the two entities in Bosnia and Herzegovina. The court sentenced Dodik to one year in prison and imposed a six-year political ban. At the same time, Bosnian officials have raised concerns over laws that prevent the state judiciary and police from operating in the Serb-controlled part of the country, further complicating the political landscape.
