An explosion in a container at a military site east of Tehran, Iran resulted in the death of one military personnel and the injury of 10 firefighters.
The blast occurred after a fire broke out inside the container, which then escalated into an explosion as firefighters worked to put out the flames, Caliber.Az reports per foreign media.
Four firefighters were taken to the hospital, while six others received on-site treatment for minor injuries. The cause of the fire and subsequent explosion has not been specified.
Jalal Maleki, a spokesperson for the Tehran Fire Department, said the fire started around 1:30 p.m. (GMT+3:30) on March 7, involving a 50-square-meter (538-square-foot) container. The incident occurred in an area that houses the headquarters of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard, along with other military sites, which are located near densely populated residential areas. While explosions at Iran’s military sites are rare, there have been instances of blasts in the past.
