Türkiye reveals reason behind suspension of wheat imports
Türkiye announced a temporary halt on wheat imports, aiming to bolster its domestic agriculture sector, Caliber.Az reports citing the country's Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
The ministry stated that the measure is implemented to shield Turkish producers from the impact of lower prices caused by an influx of imported wheat during the harvest season.
The suspension, effective from June 21 to October 15, may be adjusted based on market conditions. The government plans to prioritize domestic production to meet export demands during this period, ensuring market stability amid the seasonal decline in crop prices.
Furthermore, Turkish authorities will continue providing support to farmers, including fertilizers, diesel, and certified seeds, to sustain agricultural productivity.
