Türkiye's oil import trends: Crude up, diesel soars, annual volumes drop
Türkiye imported 2.18 million tonnes of crude oil in October, marking a significant 29.3% increase compared to September.
According to the country's Energy Market Regulatory Board (EPDK), the volume is still 25.9% lower than the imports for the same month in 2023, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Russia remained Türkiye's largest supplier, shipping 914,700 tonnes of oil in October. This represents a 17.1% increase from September but a 16.9% decrease compared to October 2023.
Iraq, the second-largest exporter, sent 494,400 tonnes of crude oil, a 6.4% rise from September, though the volume was 1.75 times lower than in October 2023. Kazakhstan’s exports stood at 272,300 tonnes, up 28.8% from September, but about half of the volume imported in October 2023.
In addition to crude oil, Türkiye's diesel imports also saw a substantial increase. The country imported almost 1.3 million tonnes of diesel in October, 11.6% more than in September and 40.2% higher than in the same month last year.
Diesel imports from Russia totalled around 933,500 tonnes, a 4.4% increase from September and 30.5% higher year-on-year. Other suppliers included India, with 69,000 tonnes, Egypt, with 45,000 tonnes, and Italy, with 44,000 tonnes.
For the year as a whole, Türkiye reduced its crude oil imports by 6%, totalling 31 million tonnes in 2023. However, imports of oil products surged, increasing by more than a quarter to reach 12.5 million tonnes.
