Kyrgyz-Armenian talks spotlight economic partnership and regional issues

President Sadyr Zhaparov of Kyrgyzstan met Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on August 7 in Cholpon-Ata, Kyrgyzstan, to discuss the trajectory of bilateral relations and avenues for expanding economic cooperation.

The talks focused on strengthening trade, investment, and industrial collaboration, while also addressing regional and international issues of shared interest. Both leaders exchanged views on current geopolitical developments and emphasised the importance of coordinated engagement on global platforms, as per the official website of the Kyrgyz head of state.

Zhaparov underscored Bishkek’s commitment to advancing ties with Yerevan, describing the relationship as rooted in “traditional friendship, mutual respect and shared values.” He highlighted the need to inject more practical substance into cooperation, calling for increased trade volumes, deeper production linkages, and greater investment flows between the two countries.

Economic cooperation featured prominently in the discussions, with both sides identifying opportunities to expand bilateral trade and enhance business partnerships. Japarov stressed that closer economic integration would require concrete mechanisms to facilitate investment and industrial cooperation.

Pashinyan welcomed Kyrgyzstan’s recent election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, expressing confidence that the role would create new opportunities for coordination between the two countries in multilateral forums. He said the development could help deepen cooperation on international issues of mutual concern.

The Armenian prime minister also highlighted the importance of improving transport connectivity in the South Caucasus, noting that enhanced infrastructure and transit links would support trade growth and strengthen economic ties between the two nations.
