Georgia responds to Azerbaijan's diplomatic note over truck delays

07 August 2026 09:42

Georgia's Foreign Ministry has confirmed receiving a diplomatic note from Azerbaijan over delays affecting Azerbaijani trucks at Georgian border checkpoints, saying the matter has been referred to the relevant state agencies.

The ministry noted that the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Georgia submitted the official appeal on August 5, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

"The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Georgia appealed to the Georgian Foreign Ministry over delays that occurred during the entry of Azerbaijani trucks into Georgia or their movement through the country," the ministry added.

It further stated that the information had been immediately forwarded to the relevant authorities.

"The information has been brought to the attention of the relevant Georgian agencies. These agencies are taking measures envisaged under Georgian legislation in connection with the identified violations," the ministry stressed.

Earlier, several Azerbaijani truck drivers transporting transit cargo through Georgia had been reportedly stranded at various customs checkpoints for several days, and in some cases for more than a month.

The drivers were not provided with an official explanation for the delays, while their documents were confiscated, prompting Azerbaijan's embassy in Georgia to submit a diplomatic note to the Georgian Foreign Ministry over the situation.
