Türkiye’s ruling party prepares roadmap for new Constitution
Preparation of a new Constitution will be one of the central topics at a three-day meeting of Türkiye’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), scheduled for June 26–28 and chaired by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, according to a party source cited by RIA Novosti.
Earlier, the newspaper Sözcü, citing former AKP MP Şamil Tayyar, reported that Erdogan could significantly intensify domestic political activity following the NATO summit in Ankara in July and may take concrete steps toward advancing a new constitutional framework.
“The issue of a new Constitution is among the priority topics of the upcoming party meeting. Further steps and a strategy for public communication will be discussed,” the source said.
The meeting is expected to include AKP leadership, government ministers, members of parliament, and founding members of the party, with discussions focused on political objectives for the upcoming period.
Ahead of the NATO summit in July, foreign policy and security issues will also be addressed.
According to the source, AKP officials plan to increase engagement with voters in August, including opinion polling and a public outreach campaign explaining the need for constitutional reform.
The draft Constitution is expected to be submitted to the Turkish parliament in early 2027.
