UK plans to move asylum seekers from hotels to former military bases
The British government is considering the possibility of placing illegal migrants on the territory of former military bases, according to The Daily Telegraph.
The publication says the initiative is aimed at reducing the costs associated with accommodating migrants in hotels. The high maintenance costs have caused discontent among local residents.
Dozens of asylum hotels are to be closed after they became the focal points for nationwide protests against illegal migration.
The plan to move migrants into much more rudimentary military accommodation comes amid claims they are living a “luxury” lifestyle at the expense of the taxpayer.
Currently, there are two former bases being used to house asylum seekers: MDP Wethersfield in Essex and Napier Barracks in Folkestone.
