UK reaffirms support for Azerbaijan’s mine action efforts
Deputy Chairman of the Board of the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA), Samir Poladov, held a key meeting with Ketevan Murusidze, Advisor on Monitoring and Evaluation for the Eastern Neighbourhood Programme at the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO).
The meeting underscored the UK's continued support for Azerbaijan’s efforts to tackle the threat of landmines and unexploded ordnance across the country, particularly in territories liberated following the 2020 Second Karabakh War, Caliber.Az reports via ANAMA.
The sides also discussed prospects for future cooperation in this area.
Since the end of the 2020 war, 399 people have been killed or injured by landmines, adding to a toll of over 3,400 victims since the 1990s—including many women and children. ANAMA has cleared roughly 140,000 hectares, yet large swathes remain contaminated.
