Ukraine: Casualties in Kyiv rise after large-scale Russian strike PHOTO / VIDEO
The number of people injured in the capital of Kyiv following a large-scale Russian attack has increased to 87, including three minors, Ukrainian authorities said. Two people have been confirmed dead.
The State Emergency Service of Ukraine reported that damage to civilian and administrative infrastructure was recorded at 49 locations across the city. In the Shevchenkivskyi district, where a residential building was partially destroyed following a direct impact, rescuers recovered the bodies of two women.
“Rescuers dismantled 165 square metres of damaged reinforced concrete slabs. Canine units inspected more than 100 square metres of the area, and psychologists from the State Emergency Service (SES) provided assistance to 112 people. Response and cleanup operations are ongoing,” the Ukrainian emergency service said.
On May 24, Kyiv experienced one of the most difficult nights, as Russia again struck the country with the “Oreshnik” system. This was the third time the country had been hit by this missile system. Government buildings, cultural institutions, a business centre, a market, shopping centres, supermarkets, as well as a drone production company were damaged. Shockwaves also reached the metro system.
Russia’s Ministry of Defence stated that military targets were hit in response to what it called “terrorist attacks” by Ukraine.
