Ukraine confirms damage of Russian landing ship, submarine in shipyard
OSINT researchers have reported that a large Ropucha-class amphibious assault ship and a Kilo-class submarine were damaged at a shipyard in occupied Sevastopol.
"[It] Appears that Ukrainian forces have successfully hit the Sevastopol Shipyard drydocks this morning, likely occupied by a Russian Kilo-class sub and Ropucha landing ship,” OSINT researcher MT Anderson and OSINT technical analysts on X, former Twitter, Ukrainska Pravda reports.
The researchers are talking about a Project 775 large amphibious ship (Ropucha), which was built at the Stocznia Polnocna shipyard in Poland, and a Kilo-class submarine.
The researchers also posted a photo of what they claim is a Ropucha ship on fire.
These vessels were docked in the drydock of Sevastopol as of the morning of September 12.
Kilo-class submarines are the collective designation adopted by NATO for two projects of Russian submarines: submarines of Project 877 Paltus and Project 636 Varshavyanka.
Large amphibious ships of Project 775, NATO codification Ropucha [Polish for frog – ed.], is a series of large amphibious ships of the 2nd rank of the near and far sea zone, built in Poland for the Navy of the USSR.
These ships are intended for naval landings and transfer of troops and cargo by sea. They are capable of transporting various types of armoured vehicles, including tanks. The ships of this project form the basis of the Russian amphibious fleet.
