Ukrainian president, Norway’s PM discuss trilateral talks, post-war cooperation
On January 27, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a telephone conversation with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, during which he updated the Norwegian leader on recent trilateral talks involving Ukraine, the United States and Russia.
In a post on Telegram, Zelenskyy said he briefed Støre on the three-way meetings that took place in the United Arab Emirates.
The Ukrainian side, he noted, is continuing preparations for the next stages of this format. However, ongoing Russian strikes on Ukraine's energy infrastructure and other civilian facilities are creating significant obstacles to diplomatic progress.
“Our team is working as constructively and substantively as possible. Unfortunately, Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy and infrastructure facilities have not stopped, and this is, of course, undermining diplomatic efforts,” Zelenskyy said.
The two leaders also discussed long-term bilateral cooperation. Zelenskyy thanked Norway for its energy support packages and highlighted Oslo's readiness to contribute to Ukraine's post-war economic recovery.
“It is important that Norway is prepared to join in preparations for the restoration and post-war economic development of Ukraine. We will continue to develop joint opportunities in building modern defence capabilities,” the Ukrainian president added.
