UN General Assembly, CSTO forge new cooperation agreement
The United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) has formally approved a resolution to enhance cooperation between the UN and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO).
The decision was made during the 79th session of the UN General Assembly on 18 November, a statement by the CSTO says, Caliber.Az reports.
The resolution invites the UN Secretary-General to continue holding regular consultations with the CSTO Secretary-General within the framework of bilateral contacts and various international forums. This marks a significant step towards strengthening the relationship between the two organizations.
The document emphasizes the CSTO’s notable contributions to global peacekeeping efforts and regional security. It underscores the organization's role in combating a range of threats, including terrorism, transnational organized crime, drug and arms trafficking, irregular migration, and human trafficking. Additionally, the CSTO's efforts in addressing the aftermath of natural and man-made disasters were recognized as vital to supporting the UN’s broader goals and principles.
Both organizations expressed their commitment to working together to implement the UN’s global counter-terrorism strategy. Furthermore, the CSTO highlighted ongoing discussions about expanding collaboration in the peacekeeping domain, a crucial area for both bodies moving forward.
