US approves $1.23 billion sale of AMRAAM missiles to Germany
The US State Department has approved the sale of Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missiles (AMRAAM) to Germany in a deal valued at $1.23 billion, the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA) announced.
Under the agreement, Germany will receive 400 AMRAAM missiles, along with components, encryption systems, training equipment, and operational support. The primary contractor will be RTX Corporation.
According to the DSCA, the sale is intended to strengthen Germany’s defence capabilities as part of its F-35 fighter jet programme. The agency added that the deal will also enhance NATO’s ability to conduct joint operational planning.
The DSCA emphasised that the missile deliveries will not alter the military balance in the region.
