A team comprising Air Force Global Strike Command Airmen, alongside Space Force Guardians, conducted another Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) test on June 6 at 1:46 a.m. Pacific Time from Vandenberg Space Force Base in California.
This launch marks the second such test within a week,
Defence Blog reports.
The exercise reaffirms the United States’ steadfast commitment to upholding a secure, reliable, and potent nuclear deterrent capability.
Travelling around 4,200 miles, the Minuteman III, equipped with a single reentry vehicle, reached the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command’s Ronald Reagan Ballistic Missile Defense Test Site on the Kwajalein Atoll in the Republic of the Marshall Islands. It's important to note that this launch is part of routine and periodic testing efforts and is not linked to current global events.
Having been conducted over 300 times, these tests serve to showcase the readiness and effectiveness of the US nuclear deterrent against contemporary threats, offering reassurance to allies and partners.
