Lithuania considers expanding sanctions regime against Belarus
Lithuania intends to double down on its existing sanctions regime against Belarus and expand its scope.
This was revealed by Foreign Minister Kęstutis Budrys during a press conference, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media outlets.
“There are no processes related to reviewing or easing the sanctions policy. On the contrary, we are looking at the scope of sanctions and how we could expand it and what additional measures we can apply,” he stated.
His remarks came following media reports suggesting that Lithuania might agree to resume the transit of Belarusian fertilisers through the port of Klaipėda in exchange for the Belarusian company Belaruskali withdrawing its €1.2 billion arbitration claim against Lithuania for unilaterally halting the transit.
Directly commenting on this matter, Minister Budrys refuted those claims and stated that there have been no contacts with the Belarusian side on this issue.
