US immigration police seeking hundreds of new offices
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is searching for hundreds of new offices across the country as part of plans to expand its workforce.
The agency intends to hire more than 10,000 new employees to handle deportation cases, The Washington Post reports, citing sources.
According to the sources, the General Services Administration (GSA), which manages federal property, is searching for approximately 300 office spaces at ICE’s request.
ICE is pressuring GSA to sign lease agreements quickly, the sources noted.
The main goal of the expansion is to strengthen two key agency divisions: the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, which handles the legal aspects of deportation cases, and the Enforcement and Removal Operations office, responsible for all aspects of immigration enforcement.
