Vučić says Serbia to modernise army along Israel’s model
Serbia plans to begin domestic production of drones in April as part of broader efforts to modernise its defence capabilities, President Aleksandar Vučić said during the presentation of the national development strategy Serbia 2030.
According to TASS, Vučić said the production will be launched in cooperation with a foreign partner and will take place on Serbian territory.
“We had worked on this before and assembled different versions, but now, from the end of April, we will have full-fledged production [of drones] on the territory of Serbia together with one foreign partner,” he said.
The Serbian president also outlined plans for a technological modernisation of the country’s armed forces, noting that the process would follow a model similar to that of Israel.
In addition to defence initiatives, Vučić announced that Serbia expects to open its first factory for the production of humanoid robots no later than this autumn. The project will be implemented with the participation of the Chinese company Mint.
“I am proud that I personally participated in bringing this enterprise to Loznica. We are creating a complete complex of systems for training and robotics,” Vučić said.
According to the president, the facility is expected to produce around 1,000 humanoid robots designed for various tasks, as well as 10,000 robotic dogs equipped with multiple functions.
Vučić emphasised that he considers artificial intelligence to be of paramount importance for the future.
