Trump turns New Mexico into “New America” in provocative map post
US President Donald Trump posted a map of the state of New Mexico on Truth Social bearing the words “New America,” with the word “Mexico” crossed out. The post came after false claims circulated that Trump had signed an executive order renaming the state.
“Many people suggested changing the name of New Mexico, one of the great vote cheating states of all time, to NEW AMERICA. So much more prestigious and beautiful for the people of that potentially incredible State,” the US president wrote. The official White House account on X also shared a post related to the matter.
According to The Hill, the proposal drew sharp criticism from Democratic lawmakers representing New Mexico, who stressed the importance of preserving the region’s history and culture. Republican Senator Mike Lee, meanwhile, said the proposed new name was “kind of catchy.”
The renaming claim originally appeared on a satirical X account. Fact-checking outlet Snopes subsequently debunked the claim, confirming that no genuine documents supporting such a change were found in White House records.
