White House: F-16s given to Kyiv to be deployed in Ukraine
Jake Sullivan, the US presidential assistant for national security, announced that the F-16 fighter jets provided to Kyiv by the USA will be stationed within Ukraine's territory.
Previously, the Ukrainian side allowed their deployment on foreign airbases.
"The bilateral security agreement signed by the President of the United States and the President of Ukraine confirmed the thesis that we want to help Ukraine acquire these fighter jets. They should be based in Ukraine," Sullivan told PBS television during an interview, as per Kommersant.
On June 10, the chief of aviation of the AFU Air Force Command, Serhiy Holubtsov, said that some of the fighter jets handed over to Ukraine would be placed at safe air bases abroad. He specified that such a step would make it possible to secure the planes from the Russian army.
