WSJ: US used AI in Iran strikes
Some recent U.S. military operations in the Middle East may have employed artificial intelligence technologies developed by the company Anthropic, including its Claude model.
Sources told The Wall Street Journal that Claude has been used across multiple U.S. military divisions, including CENTCOM, for analysing intelligence, identifying targets, and simulating combat scenarios.
CENTCOM, however, declined to disclose which specific systems are being used in the ongoing operations against Iran.
The reports have sparked controversy, as President Donald Trump issued directives on February 27 for U.S. agencies to cease collaboration with Anthropic, describing the company as a national security threat and a risk to supply chains.
An earlier report by Axios indicated that Claude was also employed by the U.S. military during the operation to capture Nicolás Maduro.
