Yemen outlines principles for peace with Houthis
Rashad Mohammed al-Alimi, Chairman of Yemen's Presidential Steering Council, has delineated four principles aimed at achieving peace with the Iran-backed Yemeni Ansarullah (Houthis) movement.
Alimi announced these principles on the occasion of the 34th anniversary of the unification of North and South Yemen, as per Anadolu.
Alimi noted that these principles firstly provide for the observance of national and regional principles and international recommendations in accordance with UNSC Resolution 2216 on the Yemeni crisis.
"In addition, these principles stipulate not harming Yemen's legal and political status, ensuring that any peace process will be inclusive and protected by regional and international guarantees, and being open to mediation efforts to alleviate the suffering of citizens," Alimi said.
He said the Presidential Steering Council and the government will stick to their previous pledges to take the southern issue as the basis for resolving the Yemeni crisis.
Alimi stressed that the Yemeni authorities are open to all options to achieve the goals of the Yemeni people and determine the political status as well as economic, social, and cultural development in line with national, regional and international recommendations.
