Zakharova confirms Russian absence at Munich Security Conference Calls Decision “Strange and politicized”

Russian officials will not participate in the Munich Security Conference, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova stated during a briefing on February 14.

She noted that no invitations had been extended to Russian representatives, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.

"As you know, Russian officials are not invited to the Munich Security Conference on politics and security. This decision was made several years ago," Zakharova said.

Describing the move as "strange" and "politicized," she confirmed that no representatives from the Russian Foreign Ministry or other official bodies would be attending the event. "I can tell you that with certainty," she added.

Meanwhile, on February 13, US President Donald Trump suggested that Russian and American officials would hold discussions on the sidelines of the Munich Security Conference.

"Russia will be there with our people. By the way, Ukraine has also been invited. I’m not sure who exactly will be attending from each country, but there will be high-level officials from Russia, Ukraine, and the United States," Trump told reporters at the White House.

Note that, the Munich Security Conference commenced today, February 14, and is set to conclude on February 16. US Vice President J. D. Vance has indicated that participants will discuss resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict through negotiations. He previously stated that a diplomatic agreement reached at the conference "will shock many."

According to Trump, Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio are also expected to hold talks with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Munich.
