Japan, US, South Korea condemn North Korean ballistic missile launch

Japan, the United States and South Korea have reaffirmed their coordination in response to a recent ballistic missile launch by North Korea, calling on Pyongyang to halt actions they said threaten regional and international security.

On September 21, Takashi Ariyoshi, Deputy Director-General of Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ Asian and Oceanian Affairs Bureau, held a trilateral telephone meeting with Baek Yong-jin, Director-General for Korean Peninsula Policy at South Korea’s Foreign Ministry, and David Wilezol, Deputy Assistant Secretary at the U.S. Department of State, Caliber.Az reports per Japan's Foreign Ministry.

The talks followed North Korea’s ballistic missile launch on September 20.

During the call, the three officials reaffirmed that North Korean ballistic missile launches violate relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions.

They called on Pyongyang to cease what they described as provocations that threaten peace and security in the region and the wider international community.

The officials also reaffirmed their commitment to close coordination among Japan, the United States and South Korea as they respond to North Korea’s missile activities.
